…”Heads up-There will be a 10 minute private fireworks show near the Vancouver Convention Centre over Burrard Harbour beginning at 9:30 pm”…

So read a tweet from @CityofVancouver last night! “It may have been for a private party, but it sure was public — and gives Vancouverites the sense that summer, and the Honda Celebration of Light, is just around the corner.”

…”Candid camera: How photos shot covertly in the wild have transformed what we know about animals”…”Vancouver ranked Top North American City for International Meetings”…

It seems cameras with big memory cards and motion sensors in remote places are giving wildlife researchers alot more accessibility. “A picture is worth a thousand words and a thousand data points”, they say!

The tabloids or the reality tv shows could quip the same about humanity too perhaps! Yikes!

Kudos to our beloved Vancouver Convention Centre!
This week, acoording to both the International Congress & Convention Association (ICCA) & the prestigious Watkin’s Research Group’s Meeting & Convention Planners Survey, Vancouver gets the #1 rating in North America!

As you ‘survey’ the components of your agenda for today, remember that any day could contain spontaneous ‘fireworks’ & digital photography could have you ‘captured’ in the ‘unconventional’ for perpetuity!

Cheers to a Thursday that sings–THRIVING!!!

…”Loonie closes at lowest level in more than a decade”…

As the price of gold fell for its 10th consecutive day, the loonie continues to slide too.

Our Canadian economy is weakening along with commodity prices, consumer confidence, and amid speculation that interest rates are about to rise in the United States.

Uncertain times—throw in an election or two or three and behind-the-scenes European countries’ posturing and a roller-coaster ride may just be about to activate.

Vancouver’s prized convention centre, often home to ‘meeting-of-the-minds’ gatherings of folks from all over the world on topics conventional & unconventional, will go full circle today with the launch of the Circle Craft and Craft Council of BC annual Summer Craft Market. Check out Jack Poole Plaza today through Sunday to see the fine craftsmanship of artisans extraordinaire!

As the old saying goes–crafts & summer markets quip–great savings for those who flea (or should that be flee?…)

Tourists and locals alike, never skip a beat when it comes to finding a bargain or drumming up enthusiasm for a fine adventure amid the vast variety of landscape that is British Columbia!

Be it, in and around Vancouver, on the North Shore mountains or the Gulf Islands, or even venturing further into the Cariboo or the Okanagan & the Kootenays, there is much that can put a fine rhythm to a vacation or exploration day!

what will be the percussion in your today?!…

Wherever you may be & whatever’s your Thursday ‘song’— let the cadence swing!!!

…put a lilt in your kilt!

…a spring in your step!

…a flutter in your heart!

Thursdays are for thrilling!!!….Cheers to a fine day!

…mm…may monday

Researchers at BC’s Simon Fraser University have received an award from Harvard for a study on flatulence..flatus, they call it.  The article expounds on dinner parties and frequencies but I will say no more…..just think silent but deadly….

As the eHealth 2012 conference continues at the Vancouver Convention Centre the BC Informed dining initiative is launching, a program for participating restaurants to disclose ingredients and nutritional information on menus.  A great idea I think, but sometimes one does wonder about information overload.   May there be an informative balance in it!

We had our Victoria Day holiday in Canada last Monday and today it’s the Americans’ turn with their Memorial Day!  Some tourists from Florida in Stanley Park Saturday stopped me to ask what they should do if they saw a bear. I reassured them that it was unlikely they would see one but to keep their eyes out for coyotes and racoons.  It’s more likely to see bears up Grouse Mountain…..

Cheers to a not mundane Monday this last Monday in May!

…on a roll…

As a new day dawns in Vancouver, the new Skytree tower (twice the size of the Eiffel Tower) has opened in Tokyo, new publicly traded facebook shares have plummeted in value, and the Duke & Duchess of Cornwall continue with a new day two of their three day Canadian Royal Tour.

Who knew?…..one might say, amid cheers to all things new!

A google search of what’s eventful for Vancouver today indicates only that it’s cheap beer Tuesday but one does know that Craft Beer Week continues through to the 26th as does the 60th American Society for Mass Spectometry (ASMS) conference on mass spectometry and allied topics at our convention centre through until Thursday.

A quick glance at the program of topics for a Tuesday leaves me with the theme song “It’s a whole new world” from Aladdin ringing through my head…..”distonic radical ions-fundamentals & applications”……..ok……..

Talk about being in the dark……apparently a not often seen solar eclipse happened over the weekend but Vancouver was so socked in with rain and cloud we Vancouverites missed seeing it!

The Rick Hansen Relay will roll into the downtown core with the finale at Terry Fox Plaza at BC Place around noon.

Cheers to a day that has you on a roll too!…..

…merry…

According to a recent study, allergy sufferers (like myself from time to time) “could be the canaries in the coal mine of modern society.”   The evolutionary increase in the number of allergy sufferers which is apparently going off the charts compared two several decades ago, suggests that science needs to understand the evolutionary reasons.

Current thinking is that allergies are a result of something wrong with immune systems but this new field of study is emphasizing research on much of what is in our environment that may be or is becoming noxious.

Cheers to a closer look at suppression and hypersensitivity and a knowledge level that blossoms!

Marathon runners will be descending on our city for Vancouver’s annual BMO Marathon on Sunday.  For those who thinking running a marathon is just too much there’s a half-marathon also that I’m guessing would be just about half as bad.  Happy running runners!   Will you take time to have a look see at the Health, Sports, Lifestyle Expo that takes place starting today through Sunday at the Convention Centre?

May the marathon that’s your Thursday have you being merry and carrying on!
