“First Day of Autumn- Autumnal Equinox-Sept 23, 2014…those at the South Pole will be seeing the sun for the first time in half a year while those at the North Pole will be preparing for six months of darkness.”

It is on this day in Stonehenge, UK that the sun rises directly between two stone columns–the festival of Mabon.

“So…”…in the north & south & east & west of it, how about a few thoughts on directions?!…
‘Though they say men are hesitant to ask, it seems to me, ask or not, there are directions to everything everywhere!…

The bookstore “how to” section…

The prescription bottle or the over-the-counter read-the-label…

Join a choir, sail away on a cruise, latch onto a campaign and you will be asked to take direction!…

“Lead and they shall follow”…

“Follow and see where it leads”…

We’ve all been there along life’s path, sometimes relying on others to be our “guiding light” & at other times, knowingly or not, being a beacon of direction for others as a parent or child, friend or confidant.

In it all there can be u-turns & dead ends & narrow passages & wide open roads along flat stretches, steep hills & deep valleys.

Life’s like that!

Cheers to a 1st rate autumnal equinox Tuesday!

In your hunger for directions, fast-NOT, forward!!!

An interesting study from the London School of Economics suggests that “although happiness is difficult to measure, a U-shape exists in human well-being as people get older, with levels dipping during mid-life.”

Happiness–“you;’re likely to overestimate it when you’re younger and one theory is that the U-shape is driven by unmet aspirations in mid-life but beneficially abanadoned in later life.”  Another theory suggests “emotional reaction to missed chances decreases with age so the elderly might feel less regret about unmet aspirations.”   As the synopsis suggests, “if you’re 21 and reading this, you might say “Nonsense! My happiness won’t take a nosedive when I’m older”, but to say so is just proving the study correct……

In these days of SEO-search engine optimizations & sometimes overly pessimistic attitudes, let’s not lose sight of the fact that we should always strive to optimize the important decisions in our lives—the think outside the box mentality, the seize the day stance, the “yes I can” mantra and in doing so may just surprise ourselves in avoiding some lower life satisfaction during midlife!….

From midwife to midlife, the master of our destiny, the director of our own movie, the twists & turns of daily living really can shout it’s all about you!

“Turn! Turn! Turn!”

To everything – turn, turn, turn
There is a season – turn, turn, turn
And a time for every purpose under heaven

A time to be born, a time to die
A time to plant, a time to reap
A time to kill, a time to heal
A time to laugh, a time to weep

To everything – turn, turn, turn
There is a season – turn, turn, turn
And a time for every purpose under heaven

A time to build up, a time to break down
A time to dance, a time to mourn
A time to cast away stones
A time to gather stones together

To everything – turn, turn, turn
There is a season – turn, turn, turn
And a time for every purpose under heaven

A time of war, a time of peace
A time of love, a time of hate
A time you may embrace
A time to refrain from embracing

To everything – turn, turn, turn
There is a season – turn, turn, turn
And a time for every purpose under heaven

A time to gain, a time to lose
A time to rend, a time to sew
A time to love, a time to hate
A time of peace, I swear it’s not too late!
