…..of swim, & out with July…

“And July in her eyes hath place” –all nature sings in ‘April is in my mistress face’-madrigal.

As today is out with July and tomorrow is in with August, the sunshine & heat of summer is continuing in full glorious days.

….”Vancouver woman waits for nod to begin swim across English Channel”….”

Fun to note that Vancouver’s Jesse Harewicz is into a 7-day waiting window where she will attempt to swim across the English Channel. “She has her pilot boat waiting, her food packed, and hours of training in the cold waters of B.C. behind her. Now she waits for the weather to co-operate and for her to get the nod that the swim is on. She will learn by 7:30 p.m. the day before her swim will start. Known as the Everest of swims — it will be much tougher conditions than the Georgia Strait. The water is very salty, it’s windy, in open ocean, and the currents are so strong that you have to swim across them.”

All good wishes Jesse!

A perfect July summer day is when the sun is shining, the breeze is blowing, the birds are singing, and the lawn mower is broken. ~ adapt. James Dent

I question not if thrushes sing,
If roses load the air;
Beyond my heart I need not reach
When all is summer there.
~John Vance Cheney

A life without love is like a year without summer. ~adapt. Swedish Proverb

Summer afternoon—summer afternoon; to me those have always been the two most beautiful words in the English language. ~Henry James

Cheers to a fine July summer day!

…of polar bears, eagles, & gas…

…”Reporter takes polar bear plunge & lives to write about frigid dip”…”Arrival of rare golden eagle in south Delta generates stir in birding community”…”Canadians could save $12 billion at the pumps if oil stays low in 2015″…

The ‘big chill’ of a Vancouver New Year’s Day again, was the 95th annual Polar Bear Swim at English bay!

2,300 brave & oft’ libation fueled gals & guys made the dash into the Pacific that had some of us 15,000 shrinking violets on the shore, thinking of the fellas, just how cold is it??!!!….

Cheers to fun & festivity in bright sunshine to kick off the New Year!!!…

Golden Eagle

Cheers to ‘birders all aflutter on New Year’s Day in South Delta!’….

“The Committee on the Status of Endangered Wildlife in Canada says the golden eagle is “relatively rare, particularly in eastern North America,” but there is no “clear evidence” to show a decline in the species over the last several decades.”

Apparently we Canucks spent a record amount for gasoline in 2014 & the good news for the New Year is that if oil places remain low, we can expect a slick dozen billion dollars in savings on fuel in the year ahead!

Cheers to bad news for producers smiles “good news beyond the prices at the pump for consumers!”

As ‘Festive Season 2014’ winds up over this weekend for many, cheers to a fine festive 1st rate 1st 2015 Friday!!!

…r & r…

A Viollet-le-Duc google doodle this morning reminds us of some of the “r & r” of life,–Gothic revival and restoration!

One doesn’t need to look far to see Vancouver’s Gothic stylistic Holy Rosary Cathedral on Dunsmuir Street, the Seaforth Armoury on Burrard or the Beatty Street Drill Hall or in the academic spheres of the city, Point Grey Secondary & St. George’s school or the chemistry building at UBC.

Interestingly enough, Viollet-le-Duc was commissioned to design the internal structure of New York City’s Statue of Liberty, but sadly died in 1879 before the project was completed. His gaining prominence in his home country of France was evidently through his restorative work on the famous Notre Dame de Paris Cathedral.

Cheers to revival!—“in the bulb, there is a flower, in the seed an apple tree, in cocoons a hidden promise, butterflies will soon be free!; In the cold & snow of winter, there’s a spring that waits to be, unrevealed until its season…” something we should always see!…

The “Do-It-Yourselfers” of our day will have some appreciation for hardware stores. In Canada, we have a popular independent owners franchise of stores called “Home Hardware” where “Home” owners help “homeowners” with advice! And of course, most of us have likely heard of the American public company that operates “Restoration Hardware” that got its start providing hard-to-find “period” hardware and furnishings of the early 20th century!…

It’s a bit of fun finding out from folks just what they like to do to restore themselves!

Actress Audrey Hepburn once said “I have to be alone very often. I’d be quite happy to spend from Saturday night to Monday morning alone in my apartment.”

Others say–I repair, I paint, I write, I play.., I knit, I sew, I read, I cook, I bake, I run, I swim, I sing!!….

Whatever it is that’s on your agenda going forward, I hope there’s been rest and relaxation in your weekend, and may the week ahead be resplendent with revival & restoration that has you singing like a cobbler:—–all is well with my soul!

Keep smiling!
