“A “go to girl” a female who will help you get things taken care of; a female you can rely on when you are in need of extra assistance; a female who acts as a ‘jack of all trades’ and is capable of doing almost anything; a girl you can count on when you are overwhelmed with your own chores and the duties must be done; a girl who does most of the leg work on a project, but never takes (or gets) credit.”
I remember many moons ago when I first started out in a professional career how I used to cringe regularly, hearing men of a certain generation say “just call my girl about that” or “if I’m not here, my girl will take care of it.”
Objectifying, demeaning, condescending, disrespectful……the list could go on.
Cheers to the workplace and how I think its evolved for the better in many respects and kudos to all (female & male) who can be relied upon to get things taken care of, are capable of doing almost anything, and far too often are not adequately recognized for it!……..
Collegiality–neglect its importance, never!
An office tower boom, described as a second wave is happening now in Vancouver. More than
half a dozen are in progress or about to start construction in the downtown core. Apparently a trend from suburban office moves to a return to the centre of the city is in full swing. Improved transit a catalyst, they say.
Downtown!–Petula Clark used to sing about it!…..
“I’m anxious,” the young meter said,
“I’ve not got time to wait
perched atop this stupid pole,
the parkers, always late.
That empty space, I cannot stand,
there should be cars to fill it.
I’ve got a boss like everyone
and he wants me to bill it.” -B. Jones
Cheers to a weekend that’s a walk in the park!…..
