…of ‘markets’, taxes, & tenacity…

As today’s google doodle honours a New  Zealand aviator who’s part of the history books & records for solo flights, a few consecutive days of summery temperatures and sunshine has seen Vancouverites and tourists alike spirits’ soar amidst all the beauty of the North shore mountains, sea & sky!

…”Seattle market white hot with Chinese demand as Vancouver market freezes”…”Incomeless students spent $57 million on Vancouver homes”…”Vancouver’s vacancy tax will require owners to self-declare”…

SOMETHING ABOUT….”mainland China buyers seeking to invest overseas are fleeing Vancouver and flooding Seattle.”…

SOMETHING ABOUT…as I said in yesterday’s blog about ‘parking cash’, now it seems some research shows that’s just what’s been happening with increasing frequency whilst many other acquired properties sit vacant and on some levels provide a poorly maintained eyesore in many cherished Vancouver neighbourhoods.

Seems to me that any tax based on self-declare vacancy by the owners is more often than not going to result in neighbourhood ‘snitches’ which will only exacerbate the accusations of ‘race card’ that get pulled which will do nothing to promote community and compassion for all in our city.

A difficult topic without easy answers for the betterment of Vancouver for all…
