…”Vancouver moves ahead with 12 possible school closures”…”Toronto sees spike in house sales as Vancouver market cools”…”
A bit of a misnomer as a headline, some might say, as it appears some of the twelve named schools will actually be used by students temporarily relocated while other schools are being seismically upgraded. Apparently, “Vancouver schools face declining enrollment, with schools operating at only about 84.7 per cent of capacity. They are under pressure from the province to get up to 95-per-cent capacity before seismic upgrades will be funded.” Actual closures to be voted on December 12th by school trustees and earliest closures not likely until June 30th, 2017.
Difficult decisions–may there be wisdom in it!
Interesting to read that Toronto’s real estate market seems to have a surge as Vancouver’s new foreign buyers’ tax cools things down in the west coast’s major city. Seems to me, a driving force behind the phenomena is clearly the penchant for many buyers from mainland China to ‘park their cash’ out of their country and it’s much less an issue about where or Canadian city livability. So much for $50k annual limits out of the country….hmmm….
And so it goes….may there be wisdom in it!
