Yes indeed…it’s Civic Holiday in Canada!!!
Known most widely as ‘Civic’ it’s also dubbed British Columbia, New Brunswick, Saskatchewan Day, Natal Day in Nova Scotia, & Terry Fox Day in Manitoba!
Since 1974, Albertans call it Heritage Day.
Now, in some provinces, it’s a statutory holiday & in others, it’s not, but we won’t go there, so as not to complicate the idea of ‘stat day’ or not, we can all be civil with one another on a first Monday in August!…
By the way, moving into new territory, our neighbours to the North in the Yukon, choose to celebrate instead on the third Monday of August with Discovery Day, commemorating the 1896 discovery of gold in the area and the start of the Klondike Gold Rush…
