…all on a January Friday…

…”Target’s Canadian retreat leaves a 20 million square foot hole”…”SONY shuttering all Canadian stores in 6-8 weeks”…

They say a “massive footprint of vacant space at shopping centres & offices and industrial warehouses across the country has plunged the commercial real estate industry into uncertainty with no obvious suitors set to fill the void.”

Not to mention job losses that spell angst & discouragement for many hard-working people.

Some years back, some of us recall the foray of the UK’s Marks & Spencer stores into North American markets, that was an epic textbook case of ‘getting it wrong’. Indeed, it does seem history has a way of repeating itself…

Add to that the continuing decline in oil prices & provincial & federal governments saying they need to re-calibrate their tax base expectations as a result, and all on a January Friday, one can say the economic picture for our day is not a bright one.

Perplexing, in the midst of it all, a new federal program for ‘ExpressEntry’ immigration has just been ushered in with the New Year.

And so it goes…

And as the old song goes….we need to “accentuate the positive, eliminate the negative, latch on to the affirmative & not mess with mister in-between”.

Complacency and ambivalence–NOT!!

A wise person will make more opportunities than he finds. ~Francis Bacon, Essays, 1625 adapt.

A pessimist is one who makes difficulties of his opportunities and an optimist is one who makes opportunities of his difficulties. ~Harry Truman

When written in Chinese the word “crisis” is composed of two characters — one represents danger and the other represents opportunity. ~John F. Kennedy, address, 12 April 1959

It is often hard to distinguish between the hard knocks in life and those of opportunity. ~Frederick Phillips

I have spent my days stringing and unstringing my instrument, while the song I came to sing remains unsung. ~Tagore

Cheers to finding some JOY in every day & for a fine Friday & weekend that has YOU singing YOUR song!!!
