Today’s google doodle honours the 180th birthdate anniversary of English ‘logician & philosopher’ John VENN, inventor of the ‘Venn diagram’ (Eulerian circles) depicting ‘set theory’–tales of probability, logic, statistics, & computer science!
That’s a vague recollection of academic days past, but what better segue to an intriguing fact about this month of AUGUST 2014!

It’s an August that contains 5 Fridays, Saturdays, & Sundays!! YES, that’s right, check your calendars!—this phenomenon will not repeat itself for another 823 years!!!
In some of the THEN & NOW for today’s world, in London UK’s historic Westminster Abbey, they will commemorate the 100th anniversary of the commencement of World War I on what was August 4th.
As the Abbey is darkened, in remembrance & reflection the four candles shown here will be extinguished.
As thoughts turn to some of that today, for our world, may hope peace & freedoms be our prayer.
If you’ve ever been to New York City or walked among the huge historic cathedrals & ancient edifices that have stood the test of time throughout our world, like me, I’m sure it can make you feel in the grand scheme of this world, so small & insignificant.
