A tale of a mallard and 13 tiny offspring taking up residence in an empty fountain in an Ontario city rings a reminder of one of the Lower Mainland’s suburban communities–Mallardville!
Situated on the “south slope of Coquitlam”, Mallardville, at one time was the largest Francophone centre west of Manitoba and celebrated its 100th birthday in 2009.
As for ducks taking up residence in empty fountains—relocating them isn’t the Humane Society’s responsibility but apparently the Ministry of Natural Resources’ domain.
And so it goes. “They can’t come out to every duck call.” ….hey Polly!, want a quacker?!…
What might be calling you today?
….the call of duty?…parents?…nature?…
I think it was Euripedes that once said “talk sense to a fool and he’ll call you foolish!”
The calling of the humanities is said to make us truly human in the best sense of the word.
They say we should follow our passions for true happiness and find and act on what we can be passionate about. “Whether it’s to be a musician, soloist, artist, in one of the
technical fields, or a plumber, there is something deep and enriching when we realize it
isn’t just a casual choice.”-Swindoll
Have you ever had times in your life where you’ve felt compelled to do something?
Not so much that outer force that has you feeling obliged, but that sense of MUST that
comes from deep within that summons up courage, need, “on a mission” thinking, and finds you learning good things about yourself beyond what you might have ever imagined.
YES!!….say many of us to that, yet just as often, some of us in our busyness and feelings of floundering, puzzled, say no, I don’t think I’ve ever experienced or felt that.
We’ve all heard about retreats. You know, those getaways, be they business/work related or personal times for brainstorming, evaluating, reevaluating and often times strategically planning for the future.
My Dad used to joke that from a young age he was always told to advance, move forward, don’t look back or dwell on the past, so despite many many invitations over the years he would NEVER retreat!….
Whatever’s calling or not calling you today, consider taking a short “living in the moment” moment to just simply be.
A sit by the duck pond.
Catching a few rays of the sun.
In the sights & sounds, in the beauty of our wonderful world, what do you see and hear?
Or at your desk, for a few minutes with your eyes away from the computer screen and your ears removed momentarily from the telephone.
What is the small voice from within singing in your heart today?
Aspiring. Energy. Hope. Keenness. Yearning.
No monotone in it.
“Please hear the message in the tone. Your call is important to us.”
