…epilogues…

As I write this morning, world leaders and a massive crowd have gathered in South Africa to remember and honour the life of Nelson Mandela, who’s “long walk” to change a Nation and better our world is over. “Free at last,” “Hope” are phrases and words that spring forth!…

A gathering of many nations, ….humanity…”each face different, hearts the same”….might that be a mantra for our world of  peace, hope, love & joy this Christmas and holiday season and as an epilogue to a life courageously lived?!….

Have you ever been on a bus (perhaps in your school year days), where a group on the way to camp or some type of field trip spontaneously breaks into song “the wheels on the bus go ’round & ’round, ’round & ’round, all day long” with many repeats?!  Not unlike the song that never seems to end “99 bottles of beer on the wall, 99 bottles of beer, if one of those bottles should happen to fall, 98 bottles of beer on the wal…”, etc.etc., or “there’s a hole in the bucket, dear Lisa, dear Lisa there’s a hole in the bucket, dear Lisa, there’s a hole”…..or the likely familiar “There was an old lady who swallowed a fly, I don’t know why she swallowed a fly….she swallowed the fly to catch…”

All these songs have an air to them that sing “are we there yet?!”….

A question for our world that is ongoing…

We’ve heard all the cliches about  purposes fou our lives—-we’re here “to make a difference”,  “do our part”,  “make our mark”, “shine our light”, on situations and circumstances.

In the bulb, there is a flower, in the seed, an apple tree; in cocoons a sudden promise, butterflies will soon be free!”….

“In the cold and snow of winter, there’s a spring that waits to be; unrevealed until its season”…..

What does that mean, for you & me??!!!……

Cheers to the overtures & the opus of our lives—may the melody in its diminuendos & crescendos echo within and beyond–enduring epilogues…
