…here & there…

“The world must take seriously what is happening there.”

…words of a former North Korean slave labourer, who now lives what she calls her new  life in bliss but heartbroken that her family did not survive there…

Seems to me we should all take those words seriously about the here there and everywhere of many many places—-some right on our own doorstep.

Some reading this will remember the theme song of Vancouver’s Expo 86 that was played every night of the fair as some fireworks were ignited celebrating the end of another welcoming day to the world.  “Something’s happening here!” was it’s theme!….Michael Koren’s words:

Something’s happening.
There’s something in the air.
The world is spinning
a heartbeat faster.
Tomorrow’s calling
(can you hear it?)
to people everywhere
Reaching out to you and me —
The future’s ours to share.

Set the world in motion.
Together we can catch a rising star.
We can touch tomorrow
Discovering the wonder in our minds and in our hearts.

Together we can touch the sky
Share our dreams and watch them fly
Celebrate it!
Something’s happening.  Something’s happening here.

Can you feel the magic?
Standing here together side by side
New ideas exploding
Touching every moment reaching all our lives.

Together we can touch the sky
Share our dreams and watch them fly
Celebrate it!
Something’s happening.  Something’s happening here.

And now the magic has begun.
The promise of tomorrow
Here for everyone.

(Something’s happening, something’s happening, something’s happening….)
Can you see that the feeling’s getting stronger
(…something’s happening, something’s happening, something’s happening…)
reaching out — touching you — touching me.

Set the world in motion.
Together we can catch a rising star.
We can touch tomorrow
Discovering the wonder in our minds and in our hearts.

Together we can touch the sky
Share our dreams and watch them fly
Celebrate it!
Something’s happening.  Something’s happening here.

Might those words be an inspiration for you & me, for all, to stand tall, to rise up from some elements of complacency or resignation and undertake some small parts towards what’s greater than the sum of its parts—being part of change for the better to be proud of and celebrate!

Hear about there…..there here….here there….

Everywhere.

“The world must take seriously what is happening.”
